The records relating to the manuscript Rès. Vm7. 639 [Dix Cantates à 1 v. et b. c, et une à 2 v., 2 instr. et b. c., d' Alessandro Stradella] - Bibliothèque Nationale de France - are now online.
The manuscript dates back to the end of the 17th Century. It contains ten cantatas for one voice and one for two voices composed by Alessandro Stradella. Many are cantatas "on subject", that is, based on a character taken from history or mythology (Nero, Belisario, Marc'Antonio, Tiberius); it contains also the Lament of Suleiman, king of Nicaea, for the death of his beloved Lesbino, an episode drawn from canto IX of Gerusalemme liberata by Torquato Tasso.
